ADAM RICKITT: My Medical Hair Restoration The Full Interview
Actor Adam Rickitt was ‘gutted’ to realise he was losing his hair. Other clinics told the soap star his only option was a hair transplant, but we advised him differently. Here, in his own words, he recounts how MHR Clinic used medical treatments to revitalise his hair, confidence and career.
SOAP star Adam Rickitt didn’t know he was losing his hair until TV producers shaved his head for a role on Channel 4’s Hollyoaks.
Recalling that moment when he realised he was thinning on top he said: “It was a bit of a kick in the guts.
“When I put my head down you could see that it was thinning. And like anyone when they pick up a niggle, once I noticed it, it’s all I could see.
“If I got in the shower I would realise there was a lot more scalp visible on top than at the front or the sides. At work, I would prepare myself to not do the same angle to camera again.”
The actor, who first rose to fame in Coronation Street and was known for his long blond 'curtains' haircut, explained: “The thing that worried me most about losing my hair was my career. From a professional point of view I could see it was going to limit the roles I would get. The amount of people you see on TV with no hair isn’t that much.
“And if I’d left it, it probably would have ended up going bald or very thin.”
“I came to see someone who didn’t look to make a quick buck, who instead was actually more concerned about me as a client. I had complete trust in what I was being told.”
Adam Talks to MHR Clinic About the Effect of Hair Loss and Hair Restoration on his Acting Career
Adam approached several hair restoration clinics in search of a solution for his hair loss.
He explained: “I had mentally prepared myself to have a hair transplant and pay 20 grand. I was being told, ‘you need a £25K hair transplant’, ‘you need a £10K hair transplant’, ‘you need a £30K hair transplant’.”
But realising Adam’s dying follicles could be revived by other means MHR Clinic’s director Craig Henton advised the actor to opt for a medical, rather than surgical, remedy.
Adam added: “There are some sharks out there who are looking for a quick buck. More income comes from FUE transplants. I came to see someone who didn’t look to make a quick buck, who instead was actually more concerned about me as a client.
“I left the consultation knowing all my options whether it was going with Craig and following his advice. Or whether it was going to a competitor and selling a kidney.”
Since then Adam has undergone weekly 40-minute low level laser therapy sessions at MHR Clinic to stimulate his follicles into growth. He takes a small dose of finasteride, a pharmaceutical hair loss treatment, to halt the shedding of his famous blond locks.
He also rubs a prescription dose of testosterone-blocking minoxidil lotion into his hair twice a day and takes zinc and herbal supplements every night. The treatments come at a fraction of the cost of FUE surgery and gave Adam a thick thatch of hair within half a year.
Adam Talks to MHR Clinic about the Low Level Laser Therapy and Medications that Restored his Hair Over a Period of Six Months
“It’s not like you have to go and take out a mortgage to pay for this. It is ongoing treatment and probably less than a lot of gym memberships.”
Adam said: “I had complete trust in what I was being told. I booked my first treatment appointment on the day with a view to taking all the treatments home. In terms of getting the laser, that was booked in on the day.
“My hair restoration treatment is laser once a week for 40 minutes, taking three and a quarter pills and putting a solution on my hair twice a day. And washing my hair. It is quick, it is easy, it takes no time at all. Within a day it was such a part of my daily process that it wasn’t a chore.”
On his low level laser therapy sessions, the actor explained: “I come to MHR Clinic. I sit in a very nice room. And I read for 40 minutes. When I say laser, it is not getting zapped. It is just you sitting there under a light.”
“I am incredibly pleased with the results. It now looks like the full head of hair that I had, hopefully when I was 18, but more likely when I was about 26. It gives me more confidence.”
Six months into his treatment programme, Adam told MHR Clinic staff: “I am incredibly pleased with the results. And I know if I can sustain this for the rest of my life then I’ll be absolutely made up. It gives me more confidence. It now looks like the full head of hair that I had, hopefully when I was 18, but more likely when I was about 26.
“It’s filled me with confidence and I’ve done scenes on TV when I’ve been out in the pouring rain and had to pick someone off the ground, so a full head shot to camera. I have no problems doing that now. My wife Katy is also really chuffed with the results, mainly I think because she sees that I am happier with it.
“And I would say to anyone out there, ‘don’t think it is something only rich people can afford.’ It’s not like you have to go and take out a mortgage to pay for this. It is ongoing treatment and probably less than a lot of gym memberships.
“Why wouldn’t you do something that means you can be the best version of yourself for as long as possible?”
